Hi. We are the Thacker family.  We all live in Atlanta, GA and are blessed to have a closed knit relationship with each other.  Though we have extended family scattered throughout the country who we love dearly, it has mostly been the four of us venturing through the last 40+ years.  We love one another dearly and are blessed with all living near one another.

On February 15, 2013, our loving husband and father died quickly and suddenly of a terrible disease called Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD).  You can learn more about this disease at www.cjdfoundation.com or on this website. We miss Steve (dad) terribly and always will, but know he is sending us smiles and hugs from heaven and he would be telling us "chin up."

A Little About Us

Stephen B. Thacker, MD, MSc, ASG/RADM (Ret.), USPHS was born in Independence, MO. He enjoyed many things in life, reading movies, pop culture, listening to classic rock and jazz music, and much more. When he was not being an amazing father and grandfather or working, he could be found coaching women's basketball or watching a baseball or basketball game. He loved going to movies with Luz though his favorites were always the black and white films. Learn more about his impact on public health and the community he lived and worked in here.

Luz and Steve met in New York City while dad was studying at Mt. Sinai Medical School and mom was working in the Dean’s office there. Despite coming from different backgrounds, she from Santurce, PR and he from the Midwest, they found each other. After many adventures living in DC and North Carolina, they soon settled in Atlanta, GA where mom continued her passion for fitness instruction and soon becoming a mom. They both had a love for sci-fi which I don’t think their daughters appreciated as much as they did. Luz still resides in their home in Atlanta with her Yorkie, Data.

Steve daughters also reside in Atlanta. Maria in Chamblee and Gabriella in Decatur. Maria runs operations for a biotechnology trade association and is also supporting the launch of a new global health alliance. When she isn’t working, she is spending time with her husband Patrick and daughter Cecilia, Cece. She also spends time volunteering with the Junior League of Atlanta working with Latina teens. Gabriella’s days are filled with being a mom and growing her doTerra business. She and her husband John also own and operate Hidden Essentials, a custom engraved essential oil storage box and glassware company. Noah their son is nearly 6 and has a growing love for baseball and the outdoors.
